Chapter 10

Guilt gnawed at my stomach. How could I be such a bitch to him? I wasn’t the only one who had just witnessed the burying of a student. A thought suddenly popped into my head, and I began to feel even more guilty: Cameron had been Booth’s roommate.

“Booth?” I said so softly that my voice was almost carried off by the wind and rain.

He seemed to hear me, and his gaze reluctantly turned back up to mine.

“Whatever is going on. We’ll figure it out,” I promised him, and the corners of his lips twitched upwards in a sad half-smile.

I glanced over my shoulder before asking, “Do you think it’s safe to head back now?”

When I looked back at Booth, he was nodding. I was shocked when he reached out to offer me his hand.

“Come on, I’ll walk you back to your room.”

The way he said ‘room’ instead of ‘dorm’ made my head spin. Was he really going to walk me all the way to my door?
