Chapter 30

Merrin’s voice trailed off as though her chanting had come to an end. Then she began to speak at a higher volume. “Thank you, Earth, for offering your strength. Thank you, Air, for sharing your wisdom. Thank you, Fire, for your protection. Thank you, Water, for your cleansing healing. Blessed be.”

With that, she allowed Booth to free himself from her grip, and in an instant, he was on his knees beside the bed.

“Thank the Gods!” he gasped as he reached for my hand, squeezing my fingers almost as tightly as Zoe had in our bedroom. “We thought we’d lost you.”

“We very nearly did,” Merrin said in a matter-of-fact tone as she moved around the bed to come to the other side. She gracefully descended down into the chair she found there while my other friends stood wide-eyed and open-mouthed at my sudden transformation.

“Jeez, it’s like it never even happened,” Keeya exclaimed. She eyeballed me up and down as though she could barely believe what she was seeing.
