Chapter 36

“Here,” Zoe said, pausing as we reached the shadows of the nearest wall, “Put this on.”

She dragged her hoodie up over her head and shoved it into my arms. “Pull the hood up, and you’ll be good to go.”

I did as she instructed, once again a little relieved that the night was chilly.

“Come on. It’s freezing out here,” she urged, her arms already beginning to go all goosebumpy.

I pulled the hood of her black jumper up over my head and pulled it down around my face before I followed her out from the shadow of the wall.

Even though I never looked up, I could sense the fact that Ebony had been following us for our entire journey. Though her wings were practically silent, I always seemed to know when she was around.

Even though I was still annoyed with her, it definitely was a relief to have her there. I was pretty sure she’d warn us if she saw anyone around.
