Chapter 41

“I could say the same to you!” Merrin huffed as if I was holding onto her way too tight, and I eased off before stepping away. “After our shock this morning at the council greeting, I found Zoe, and she told me all about your rise from the grave.”

I glanced at Zoe for a moment before turning back to my tutor.

“What happened to you that night?” I asked her. It was just one of the many questions that had been left unanswered.

“Whoever attacked you must have used some kind of sleep spell,” Merrin sighed. “I remember very little.”

“But you remember enough to know that I was attacked?” I scowled back at her. Did she really not know who had attacked me?

Again I glanced at Zoe, who simply offered me a shrug as if she found it just as strange as I did.

“Brianna, you weren’t just attacked.” Merrin’s words brought my full attention back to her, and I found her gazing down at me with obvious concern. “You were killed.”
