“You said we have thirty minutes. I’m sure that’s enough time to explain.” There was no way in hell I was letting this go. I was about to walk into serious danger with a woman who may as well have been a total stranger. The least I deserved was a few answers.

Emelia sucked in a deep breath as if she was filling her lungs, ready to tell a seriously long story and I sat back in my seat, ready to listen.

“Your father and I were both from very powerful witch families. The Winterwoods and Maxwells along with a few other high families were the ones who opened up the academies to teach young witches and keep them safe from harm,” mum explained, and I struggled not to scoff. The Winterwood Academy hadn’t done much to protect its students recently.

“Like all the high families, both of ours were very traditional and it was determined from very early on that your father and I would be partnered together to continue a strong line of witches.”
