Alex was working in the kitchen and Daniel came up behind him, clearing his throat to gain his attention.
“Hello,” he said.
Alex turned towards him. “Hello,” he answered, putting the dishes on the table.
“Do you want to talk?”
“About what?”
“About, you know…today. And about the fact that you’re so tense.”
“What can I say, Daniel?”
Daniel. Not Danny. There was definitely something wrong.
“I don’t know. Something?”
“I don’t know what to tell you. Unless you don’t want to talk about Matt. You know, I would have liked it if you had told me about it first. Not that I want to know your shit, but I felt like a fool today. I didn’t even think you knew him and yet, strangely, I was wrong. I think you know him pretty well. I would have liked to hear it from you and not him. I felt a bit like the cheated husband…or wife…I mean, you know, the person who has been cheated on, and the whole world already knows it, except for we aren’t husband and wife.”
