Chapter 29

“This would be your best bet, and it’s not the greatest,” Jesse finally decided, setting his choice on the counter.

“Try this one,” Maverick said from behind them.

Because he wasn’t expecting it, Dirk’s pulse sped up at the sound of Maverick’s voice. He tried to convince himself it was just because he was startled. Unfortunately he knew it was more than that and he didn’t like the idea. Not one bit. Sex with him is one thing. If we go there again. This…feeling. Not happening. He took a slow breath before turning to look at what Maverick was holding.

“It’s top-of-the-line and new, not pre-owned,” Maverick told them, putting it down beside the one Jesse had picked out.

“I’ll say,” Jesse agreed when he opened the top. “Cord?” Maverick took one out of his bag, gave it to him, and after plugging in the laptop, Jesse booted it up. “Not bad. Not bad at all,” he stated a few minutes later. He returned his attention to Maverick. “You know we’d give you a fair amount of cash for this.”
