“Aunt J—Kate…”

“Don’t ‘Aunt Kate’ me,” she retorted, and Tab winced at the slightly shrill volume. Womanhood had not softened her in the slightest. “Take it from me, chasing after that kind of a boy is a bad idea and if you encourage your crush by this drawing lark, it’ll break your heart in the end when he’s not interested.”

Tab wanted to protest that Nick might be interested, but he didn’t believe it for a minute, so he demanded, “What do you know?”

“Oh, please,” JuliKate said tartly. “As if you’re the only one. I spent six years carrying a torch for a man who wasn’t interested. Six years. I knew from the beginning it wouldn’t work but I nursed it anyway, and it doesn’t matter if you think that…”
