I walked into the classes studio at Temple and my heart skipped. Chris. He was standing by the stereo system messing with CDs. Damn, he must be leading the class. He hadn’t seen me yet. I could just back out and do a workout instead. No, screw that. Several of the Running Queens had recommended Spin class as a great way to improve my cardiovascular fitness. I was taking this damn class, whoever was leading it.
Several people were already claiming the bikes and doing their warm up stretches. I grabbed one on the side of the big semi-circle they were arranged in, started adjusting the seat height and handlebars, making a good show of looking as if I knew what I was doing. A moment later, I heard Chris’s voice.
“Everyone here? Great, let’s…” I heard the catch in his voice, and turned around to see him stare at me briefly before covering his hesitation with a cough and continuing. “Let’s do a few stretches and get warmed up.”
