Chapter 39

Laurel was on her way out, but when she saw me coming up the staircase, she immediately turned around to head back to her apartment.

??Did you call the police on me last night??? I asked her as she fumbled with her keys.

She didn??t say anything as she struggled to get her front door open.

??He??s twenty-one, Laurel!?? I said before she bolted into her apartment and slammed the door shut behind her.

As tempted as I was to pound on her door and tell her to come out and face me, I didn??t, mainly because I was afraid she??d call the police on me again. The last thing I needed was a return visit from Officers Linzer and Palmieri.

After dodging Sean??s calls for the remainder of the weekend, I finally sent him a text Sunday night telling him I wanted to see him so we could talk. He texted back asking me to meet him in Room 608 at the Marriott Monday night at seven.

He was waiting for me when I got to the room, still dressed in his bellman??s outfit.
