“Doesn’t know his ass from straight up,” Caiden told Styge. “What the hell is he doing out there in this weather?”
The wind sharpened abruptly and the waters got rougher as the sky darkened even more. Styge apparently thought enough was enough and took off for the house. Caiden was about to do the same when he saw the rowboat rock and then flip over. The young man was thrown into the water. It was immediately obvious from the way he was flailing that he was in trouble. Kicking off his shoes, and grabbing the buoy hanging on the edge of the pier, Caiden dove in to the canal. The guy was only a few hundred feet away at that point, calling for help.
Caiden was a strong swimmer, even in rough water. He reached the man just as he started to go under. Caiden pulled him up, telling him to hang onto the buoy. Then, gripping the other side of it, Caiden swam back to shore. As soon as his feet hit land, he stood and pulled the guy onto the stony beach.
