Caiden McNeil is a special being, a metamorph who can become any human necessary to stop the criminals his elven boss Zander sends him after.<br><br>Caiden is also a loner, unable to trust anyone on an emotional level. Leander smiled. “That’s legit too. Just in a different way.”


“Transporting…well, I’m not sure exactly what, except Zander says they’re stolen goods.”


“He’s right. Stolen goods I’m sent to locate and retrieve from whoever has them.”


Caiden considered what Leander was telling him. “You catch the thief before he can get rid of whatever?”


“If we can. Yes. Then the authorities are called in. If they’ve already disposed of the item, I’m sent to retrieve it from the buyer.”


“That’s where it gets sticky. You know the saying ‘possession is nine-tenths of the law’? A good thief—and those are often the ones we’re dealing with—won’t take the item unless he can get the provenance papers as well. With those in hand, it’s hard for the authorities to prove that the new owner doesn’t have a legitimate claim to the item in question.”
