Chapter 21

Caiden lifted the cover on the skillet and decided that, while definitely on the over-cooked side, the meal still looked good. “If you’ll get the plates,” he told Leander, nodding to the right cupboard, “I’ll put the salad together. Then we can eat—and think.”

“About whether I’m out and out lying to you,” Leander replied while getting plates and setting them on the counter.

“I think you trust Rian. That does not mean he hasn’t messed with your mind to make that happen.” He put the spinach and mushrooms in a bowl, added the dressing, then went to set it on the table.

“I’m a shifter,” Leander stated. “It’s not really possible for him to do that.”

“Oh, not in a ‘getting into you head’ type thing, I agree. But by explaining convincingly why he wants you to pick something up, or, perhaps deliver something.” Caiden looked questioningly at Leander, getting no response. “A good conman can make someone believe grass is blue and the sky is green. You know that.”
