Chapter 9

“I love the storms. Rain has always made me happy.”

“I’m sort of like a cat and like to stay dry.”

He joked, “I’ll take my shirt off, and you can use it.”

I crossed a line and replied with, “You’ll cause wrecks on Law Street if you do that. Morning commuters will see your blond and hulking chest and bang into bumpers. Every news channel in the city will be here, and not because of the car wrecks.”

“Are you saying you like my chest, Charlie?”

“I’m just saying you’re a good-looking guy. So leave the shirt on.”

My heart thumped chaotically within my chest, stinging. I felt nervous and unsure where the morning headed. Truth told, he was untouchable, dangerous for my career. Although I wanted to kiss him right there and then, I couldn’t. Again, mixing business with pleasure could be a mistake, and I didn’t want to risk that. Bottom line: I couldn’t be involved with Zeb.
