Chapter 8

“You’re like the Energizer bunny, aren’t you?”

“I’ve been called worse.”

“I bet.”

Lance kept hold of my hand the whole way, caressing my knuckles with his thumb. He paid the driver when we arrived at our destination.

I decided to order beef curry this time, with wine. He ordered the duck.

“I know pretty much all the menu choices by heart now. It’s all so good, it’s a wonder I haven’t put on any weight.” Which was ludicrous, since he had not an ounce of spare fat anywhere that I could tell.

“Are you fishing for compliments?”

“Would you give me one if I deserved it?” he queried.

“It would be risky, with your ego.”

“I always deserve a compliment, trust me.” He gave me the smile that probably got men to drop their boxers and bend over quicker than thought.

“Yeah, you thinkyou do.” It was so easy to be with Lance.

Our meal came a little while later, and then I asked him about his work. “Tell me why, again, you chose to work at this hospital?”
