Chapter 20

The sound of sirens rent the air as two tanker trucks from the fire department pulled up the lane. They drove to the side of the house and within moments the fire personnel were attaching the hoses to the tanks and working to douse the fire.

Once they had everything under control, the fire chief came over to Daniel and Griffin. “My men tell me this was arson from the look of it, not the furnace exploding. That was our first thought, given that it started in the furnace room.” He gave them a hard stare. “There were three points of detonation. I’ve already called for a fire investigator to come up from Denver tomorrow to do a more thorough examination.”

“Oh yeah, it was arson, but not done by me,” Daniel replied tightly. “If Griffin hadn’t been here, I’d probably be dead by now.”

The chief turned to Griffin. “Did you see who started it, Mr. Pryce, or just the result?”
