Chapter 58

“Father Leander, I thought you had left me,” Peter cried. He sat up and rested his head against Leander’s chest and went back to sleep.

That was all Leander needed to hear. For as long as Leander could remember, he had been pining and searching to hear those words from another person’s mouth. With those few simple words from Peter, he found the love and acceptance for which he had been searching his entire life. Father John had implied his love; Raphael had rejected his love. Emil had loved him, but was taken away.

“I suppose you’ve made all the arrangements?” Leander asked.

“Yes, the solicitor’s office closes at five.”

“I suppose we should go, make the arrangements, then get the boy settled.”
