“Don’t cry,” Peter whispered. “I’m here and will take care of you now.” 35

Leander woke from a morning nap and looked at the clock. It was almost time for luncheon. He thought about his dreams, seeing himself holding Raphael again on that night seven years ago. The happiness he experienced then filled his body as he lay in the bed. He swelled with pride at providing Raphael the safety to sleep soundly. Previously, it had been Raphael who gave him the security to experiment.

Sadness overwhelmed him. It must have been difficult to preach pious living each week, yet sneak around in the shadows with women. To hide Peter from sight and yet continue to provide for him.
