Chapter 39

“I grew up in this country,” Fred said sadly. “How the hell did things come to this?”

“Hatred, greed, intolerance.” Armand sighed. “Don’t get me started.”

“At least we’re doing something to help,” Niall said, joining them.

“This place—” Armand swept his arm around, “—will barely make a dent in the problem. And that’s just in this city.”

“Then we open more,” Joaquin said, obviously having overheard them.

“We?”

“Why not. I don’t mind putting in with you, after seeing this, tonight. I’ve got a feeling everyone else will agree.”

Armand felt a surprising welling of pride in his fellow vampires. Almost every book and movie portrays us as evil and, or, self-serving. If people truly knew us…Not that that will happen. The humans would just as soon kill us as let us live among them, it they knew we truly exist.

“Before we can do that,” Fred pointed out, “we need to catch the rogue. As far as I can tell, he’s not here.”
