Chapter 39

“You can pack the car while I take a break,” said Travis, picking a box and hauling it up the stairs.

Dom followed, frowning. “You can take a break and go back to it.”

“I thought you wanted me out.”

Dom slid the box and microwave into the trunk. Travis was not in a good mood; Dom was suddenly glad for Chad to be his excuse to leave early.

“Look, Trav, I got to get something to eat and get going. Kiko and I are going to the Apple Barn party later—”

“I was going to go to that. But that bitch is going to be there. Anna.”

“Classy,” said Dom, following Travis back into the house but stopping in the kitchen. “Not everyone’s going to sleep with you.”

Travis flipped him off and descended into the basement. Dom reheated and ate the last of the leftover chili, avoiding Travis’ ire as best he could by studying the directions Kiko had sent him. Chad’s mother’s house didn’t look difficult to get to. He left immediately after rinsing out his bowl.
