Chapter 60

“Well, being out here reminds me of middle school,” said Chad. “There’s a, like a park, over there,” he gestured vaguely with his knife. “But it’s not a for real park, just some land. Me and a few friends would go out there sometimes. This one kid lived right next door before he moved, so there was literally nothing to do.”

“So you spent your childhood trespassing,” said Dom, kicking Kiko’s leg under the table. He hoped Kiko understood that Chad was already long misled before he came around. Chad shrugged.

“I guess. Like, it was NBD. Except when it was. So this one day we’re just crushing dead trees and this creepy guy with a rifle comes out of nowhere. He’s like, all old and pissed, and shouting. He’s all telling us he’s gonna kill us and shoot us and literally murder us.”

Kiko looked up at that, but Dom was trying hard not to laugh.

“What did you do?” asked Dom as Kiko said, “Who was that?”
