Chapter 61

“Oh my God,” said Lucy. “I didn’t even think about that. I mean, my grandson was worried that I lived out ‘where all those murders were,’ but you know young people, they think we can’t take care of ourselves.”

“You’re not saying Lucy’s running around with her shotgun, killing people,” said Owen. Kiko watched him closely. Possibly he could be mistaken for an old man, and as a taxidermist he was certainly not squeamish with death. He was beginning to hope Chad was right. If it was someone else, they could call Gordon and report it. But if it was Owen, and they told him to his face…

“No,” said Kiko. “But Chad mentioned an older man out this way? This would have been at least six years ago or so, he said the man was threatening and creepy.”

“Wait,” said Dom. When Kiko looked over at him he had a kind of excited glaze in his eyes that said he was thinking and something just clicked. “The creepyguy? Is the creepy guy out here?”
