Chapter 12

Finding a parking spot, not the easiest thing to do because most of them were filled by tourist’s vehicles, he got out of the patrol car. Walking back to the diner, he cupped his hands around his eyes, peering through the window.

Along one wall was a long counter, split into two parts, with red-topped stools in front of it. On the wall under the window there were round tables covered with checkered tablecloths. Cone-shaped lights hung above each one as well as above the counter. Behind the counter was a large, shelved opening where the waitresses or waiters could place and pick up their orders. On each side of it were the requisite cases for desserts, a coffee machine, and everything else a classic diner needed to serve its customers.
