Chapter 30

“This thing is…small,” Noah said in disbelief. “Are you sure…?”

John chuckled as Arik showed Noah how it worked. “My sentiments exactly but he’s the expert so I’m trusting it’ll do the job.”

“It will,” Arik said with a quick smile. “Now, first things first. We need to check out your friend’s apartment. The life-sucker might have returned if it wasn’t well hidden when you were there, Noah.”

Noah nodded. Opening a desk drawer, he took out a key. “If Cody doesn’t answer when we get there, we can still get in.”

When they left the apartment, Arik had them split up. Noah took the elevator while John went up one set of stairs to Cody’s floor. Arik took the other set. Noah opened his senses on the way to the elevator, tensing when the door opened, half expecting to see one of the creatures inside. There wasn’t one, but on the ride up, Noah kept a wary eye on the trapdoor in the ceiling, while tightly clutching the blowtorch.
