Chapter 14

“Okay,” Angel said. “Let’s get back to the motel and figure out exactly how I’m…we’re going to pull this off.”

“It’s breaking up,” Angel told me. She’d spent the last hour in the hotel bar, which was next to the main hall where the conference was being held. Now, she was beside me in a dark corner of the parking garage, several yards from where our target had left his car.

I nodded and left her there. While she transformed herself from a nicely-dressed female into a desolate street person, my job was to intercept our target and keep him busy until most of the attendees were gone. We didn’t really want any witnesses to the muggingif we could help it. I found him talking with a small group of men outside the hotel bar. Putting on my most ingratiating smile, I joined them. When the chance arose, I invited him to have a drink with me before he left.

He hesitated, then shrugged. “What the hell. Why not? It’s not like I have to hurry home.”
