“And get ridda that beard. Makes ya look like a derelict, for God’s sake,” Caleb added.

“Yes, sir,” Trent mumbled.

As the two Boxwoods turned to walk away, Rio, clearly irritated, put in his two cents worth. “Nice meetin’ you, too.”

Boxwood didn’t turn around, just raised his hand over his shoulder as he and Trent walked Dixie into her stall.

Lex looked at Rio and whispered, “We gotta get him away from that old man!”

Rio nodded.

They began to unsaddle Imp and rub him down.

“You threw it on purpose, didn’t ya?” Rio asked.

Lex and Rio were standing at the arena rail watching the bronc riding competition. Trent had just finished his run and had easily beaten Lex’s score, too easily.

“I don’t know what you’re talkin’ about,” Lex said, avoiding Rio’s eyes.
