Rick spoke up. “Then don’t argue with me when I say it’s time to go.”

“Can we still come back Friday?” Micah asked.

“Only if you promise to be good and listento me.”

Giving Rick a hug around the waist, Micah said, “I will.”

“Yeah, right,” Rick muttered. But he ruffled his son’s hair; he’d give the kid the benefit of the doubt. “Now go wait over by the door so I can give Marty a kiss goodnight.”

Micah’s nose wrinkled in disgust. “Ugh. Gross.”

“Says you,” Marty joked. He was already on his feet, and slid his arms easily around Rick’s waist the moment Micah moved aside. “Hey, stranger.”
