“You’re right, Shannon. He is a numbers man. That’s why it went so smoothly.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Do you really think I’m some indentured servant working for the Malloys?” He let out a barking laugh that startled Shannon, causing her to spill some of her coffee onto her bare knees. Shannon stopped the truck in the middle of the road and began mopping at herself while Felix continued. “I’m the son of the CEO of a powerful international cheese consortium. I’m here making sure the Malloys are ready to join our ranks.”
Shannon studied him for any chink in his armor. “Cheese? Is that it?”
Felix cursed himself for revealing that detail. “Among other things.”
“Then why the long face when you were leaving the bank?”
“It went so smoothly that I’m going to be leaving. I’m having such a good time, I don’t want to go. But Ronan is there. Ready to ship out his stock any day now.”
The smile on Shannon’s face did not reach her eyes. “You’re a horrible liar.”
