Chapter 44

While down in the lobby, he had totally forgot to ask for the check. Then he looked at Carlos, wondering just how to share his news.

“What is it then?” Carlos asked with a shrug.

Reggie handed him the envelope. “See for yourself.”

“My boy, you’re scaring me…” The caddie opened the envelope and looked inside. Then he frowned. “Oh, a plane ticket. To London.”

Reggie nodded.

“First class.”

Reggie took back the envelope. “First class? I hadn’t noticed that.”

“I thought we were going back home.”

He looked at Carlos, trying not to preen and failing miserably.

“You’re going, I’m not.” He couldn’t keep the secret anymore. “Russell sent it to me. He wants me to visit him.”

Carlos opened his eyes so wide, it looked like they might fall on the carpet.

“He said he wanted to clarify,” Reggie added, sitting on the edge of the bed with the ticket in his hands. “And apologize.”

Massaging his chin, Carlos said, “Shit.”

“Yeah.”
