Chapter 49

“Let us know how it goes,” Carlos said. “And try to play it cool.”

Reggie nodded, trying not to cry like a baby. Then Carlos disappeared into the crowd. Now he was really alone.

At his gate, he sat in front of a young couple who were kissing. He looked away, put his bag in front of his feet, and took out his cell. He turned it in his hands, thinking, I should let Russell know I’m leaving. He had agreed to, after all. Who knew if Russell would answer before take-off? Maybe he was asleep, trying to recover from the jetlag. Or maybe he didn’t suffer from it, unlike Reggie. He’d love to hear how Russell experienced it. He had hundreds of questions to ask the Englishman, actually. Dozens of little details about his life that were unknown to Reggie, about his tastes and experiences. The shadow of fear that his love wouldn’t be returned made him tremble.

“But if you don’t try…” he whispered to himself. Then he logged into Twitter and sent a private message to Russell.
