Chapter 37

As they ate, Sage noticed that more than once Mike eyed him with a speculative look on his face. When Sage caught him at it, Mike immediately returned his attention to what he was eating. Uncertain what was going through Mike’s mind, Sage was tempted to ask—except he wasnwrsquo;t certain he wanted to know.

He’s either trying to decide how to convince his bosses to let me help with some of his cases, or he’s wondering why the hell he invited meout to dinner. There’s probably a dozen other men he knows who’d have been more fun to be with. Ones he could convince to go home with him for a nightcap—with all that implies.

“Would you quit looking at me as if I was going to proposition you—and you didndrsquo;t like the idea,drdquo; Mike said.

“Were you? Are you? Going to do that, I mean?”
