“He was as of last night,” Kegan replied. “But knowing he’s here and finding him are two different things. The man is nothing if not elusive. Maybe we should have held off on getting Ortiz to go after Hardy until we knew for sure that Patterson would stick around.”

“If he didn’t,” Bernie said, “do you have any ideas where to find him?”

“Yes,” Kegan replied before telling him about Patterson’s three headquarter buildings. “We found out their locations from Morse. Ash had already been inside the one in Denver before we got the information out of Morse.”

“Does Patterson know that?”

“Yes.”

“Then you can probably scratch it off the list,” Bernie said. “The kind of man you’ve been describing wouldn’t be stupid enough to go where he knows you can get to him.”

“On the other hand, that could be exactly what he does, figuring we’d think that,” Gage pointed out.
