“No problem there,” Gage told him. “If nothing else, the Agency pays well. How do you think we’ve been able to move around and stay in motels and hotels for the last couple of weeks. For sure it wasn’t on our good looks alone.”

Bernie laughed. “Okay. Give me an hour to pull this together. You have any druthers on which one, if I can get them both?”

“Yes. This one,” Kegan said, tapping the picture of a house on North Rampart, not too far from the Quarter.

“Okay. Go find something to do to stay out of my hair. And not that,” Bernie added when Ash grinned.

“Well, damn.”

The trio refilled their coffee cups then went into the backyard.

“I could get used to having a place of my own,” Ash said wistfully. “A real house, with a real yard.”

“I know the feeling,” Kegan replied, getting nod from Gage. “Settling down instead of being sent off to wherever because a job demands it. I think I see the inside of my apartment maybe twice a month, if I’m lucky.”
