Patterson glanced at Kegan with a feral grin. “I could do this all night.”
“Bastard,” Kegan growled at the same time that Gage said, “Don’t tell them.”
“Ah, then you do know where they are,” the senator said, gesturing to Patterson to continue
Kegan was about to reply when two shots rang out in quick succession. The first took Thomas square in the face. He dropped like a rock. The second shot hit Patterson in the gut. He looked down in shock, Kegan’s knife dropping to the floor as he pressed his hand to the wound in an obvious attempt to stop the flow of blood.
For a second there was silence, except for Patterson’s groans as he fell to his knees. Then a gun appeared in the senator’s hand. He fired twice. Kegan felt a bullet hit his shoulder then pain flared and his world darkened for the second time that night. 14
“Don’t you dare die on us,” Gage said as he looked down at Ash’s pale face. “It will destroy Kegan if you do.”
