Chapter 50

“Never underestimate your enemy, Kegan.”

Kegan heard the words, but they made no sense at first. Then it all came back to him. He tried to move, but couldn’t. It took a moment for him to realize his arms and legs were tied to something. A chair from the feel of it. Slowly, he opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was Gage in a chair opposite him, in what appeared to be an unfinished room in the basement. His chin rested on his chest. Like Kegan, his arms and legs were lashed to a chair. He was bare-chested. Kegan realized he was, as well.

Patterson stood to one side, his gaze locked on Kegan. Beside him was a dark-haired man Kegan had seen before with him. “Surely you didn’t really think it would be that easy, breaking in here,” Patterson said.

Kegan grimaced. “I had moments when I wondered.”

“You should have thought twice and turned around. Not that it would have done you any good. I don’t take betrayal lightly.”
