“I’m okay. My bike, on the other hand,” Hunter grunted out. Hunter looked over as Van touched his shoulder, holding his hand over a bleeding wound. “Fuck! Van, pull over!”

“I’m okay. I know these roads, and you don’t. Let me get us to safety, then you can mother me,” Van explained, and then winked at Hunter.

“Cute,” Hunter chuckled. “This is serious, Van. Jesus Christ. I got you shot, your windshield blown out, all this trouble, and—”

“Stop!” Van snapped.

“I’m just saying, this trouble is all on me!”

“Enough, Hunter, just stop this bullshit. I chose to be here with you, and, honestly, I’m damn glad I was or you would have been hurt or worse! So no what ifs or anything else, okay? We have to get to my house to pick up my laptop and clothes. Do you think they know who I am? Is it safe to go back there?”

“I don’t know, man. I don’t know if Rowdy is in on this. I think we have a little time if we can get in and out quick.”
