I shook my head no as we strode ever higher. “Do you, um, think you’ll come back to school next semester?”

“Deflecting again?”

My shake turned nod. “Yes, but I’d still like to know.”

He sighed. He stopped. I stopped alongside him. “My parents can’t afford it. The lawyer fees wiped them out. I’m taking online classes, for now.”

I pictured him alone at his computer. Suffice it to say, even though he was awfully pretty, it wasn’t a pretty picture. “I miss you,” I told him.

He nodded. He leaned in. He kissed me. Again, I forgot to stop kissing him. “I miss you, too, Lucas.” He grinned. “Now, why are we going to break into a remote lab in the mountains of Montana?”

I winced. “Wanna fuck?” It seemed to be the answer to all my problems as of late—at least for twenty minutes at a time.

Again, he sighed, though at least his grin remained. “Your deflecting skills are much improving.”
