We were quickly back in the main part of the lab again. “I don’t think so. I just needed the information on that computer.” I stared at the blinking machine as if it were my mortal enemy. “I think I told you I was adopted.” He nodded. “I think that the whereabouts of my birth parents were on this computer at one point.”


“Good question,” I replied glumly. “Too bad I don’t have the answer for you.”


Todd and I ate dinner back at the house. Todd spent the night. I was at a fork in the road that was my life, and I was spooning with my ex-roommate whose brother I put in jail. I thought back to my old comic books. I couldn’t remember Batman or The Flash having these sorts of problems.


“Why do you look so sad, Lucas?” asked Todd, who was lying by my side, looking over at me. Even first thing in the morning, he was stunning.
