Simon sighed. “Can we up the maturity factor, please?”
I shrugged. “Nope. This is as mature as I get.”
“Yep,” said Doug.
“Yep,” said Todd.
Simon sighed, again. “Lord help us all.”
I nodded. I stared up at the heavens—or at least the roof of the car. “Yeah, Lord,” I whispered. “A little help here would be greatly appreciated.”
As it was soon to turn out, the Lord really did move in mysterious ways.

I was waiting outside Simon’s office after classes that Monday.
“Again?” he asked good-naturedly as he was on his way out. “We’re making a habit out of this. People will talk.”
My face lit up. “PeopleMagazine? I love People!”
He rolled his eyes. “People in general, Lucas.”
“Oh.”
“In any case, to what do I owe the honor?”
“Can we talk?”
He closed his office door and locked it. “Come on.”
