I shook my head. “Also not secure enough,” I said. “No, Craig works for the senator. Craig has an office there. That wolfy sense of mine is telling me it’s there. That would be the safest place for it.”


“But what if he’s already given it to the senator? What if the senator already knows all about you, all about us, even?” he asked. “You said that Craig might be bad now. If he is, that’s what he would’ve done.”


My heart ached. “Maybe, but I’d like to think not. Craig is bad in that he’s willing to do underhanded things in order to accomplish a greater good. Turning me in to the senator wouldn’t just be bad; it’d be evil. And Craig is not that.” Please, dear God.


“Okay,” said Simon. “So, given all that, if the flash drive is in the senator’s offices somewhere, how on earth are we going to get it back?”


I touched my finger to Simon’s chest. “Like you said, tag, you’re it.”


His mouth shrugged. “I’m a science professor, Lucas.”
