“You don’t seem terribly bothered about that.”

Dearne looked at him. Those gorgeous eyes suddenly very serious. “Don’t be fooled by appearances. I was inordinately fond of my grandmother and was incredibly moved when she left me the house. I will not give it up without a fight. The sale cannot possibly be legal as they don’t have the deeds. I have those.”

Will nodded. There was something admirable about that calm determination so he looked away. “What do we do now?”

“I think I shall make my way to my family home, recover a little, and send word to my solicitor about my concerns, and then I intend to confront Holbrook.”

“Sensible plan, but what if Holbrook is in residence?” Will felt his heart sink at the thought of Dearne departing and was shocked at how strong the feeling was.

“Then I will confront him first.”

“Is there any real possibility Holbrook could have been behind what happened?”
