Chapter 26

“Hey you.” He set down his fork and leaned in to give me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. He smelled of hickory and citrus-scented cologne. “How are you, hon?”

“I’ve been better. Had to draw up the papers to put Jonah into assisted living.”

Bo was sympathetic. “I’m sorry, sweetie. I know that must have hurt. Nicholas told me all about it.”

“Yeah.” To change the subject, I asked, “So who are all these young bucks anyway?” I gestured with my chin toward the rowdy group of men before us.

“Buddies from college, his old police squad, and some other guys he’s met along the way. I’m sure he’s slept with all of them at some point.” His response was meant to be lighthearted, I was sure, but I heard a bitter undertone.

I turned to stare at Nicholas, who caught my eye and waved before continuing to flirt with a beefy, bear-like dude. Then I observed how tightly Bo’s lips were pressed together. And it clicked

“How long?” I asked.

Bo arched his brow. “How long…what?”
