Chapter 22

“If you say so.” Bill laughed. “Okay, we’ll have to figure out logistics. You’ll need a place to stay and…and I’m getting ahead of myself. First, we have to get back out there. People are going to wonder if I’ve killed you, considering how obvious it was that I was pissed off when we left the dining room.”

“It sort of showed,” Erik agreed. Stepping away from the door, because he hadn’t moved since he’d planted himself there, he started to open it. Then, on impulse, he hugged Bill.

Bill looked at him in surprise before slowly smiling. “That was nice.”

“So I can do it again sometime?”

“I’d be hurt if you didn’t.”

The first person they saw when they left the office was Bill’s mother, coming down the hallway.

“I wondered where you’d disappeared to,” Carol said. “Roger was worried.”

Bill cocked an eyebrow. “Hewas worried?”
