Chapter 40

“I don’t know. I’ll probably just wander the city, enjoy being stress-free for the first time in years. I love the history and architecture here. It reminds me of my dad. Aside from that, I guess I’m learning who I am, really, without the job. What I want to do when I grow up and turn thirty-six. Nothingserious at all.”

Lindsey laughed. “Look at you, with a sense of humor and everything. And you don’t look a day over twenty-one. I turned thirty-one earlier this year.”

When we were done and I walked him to my door, I opened it and we stood in the hallway.

“How about you come to our apartment on Friday night and enjoy our milkshake extravaganza? Seven o’clock? Lisa would love to have you, and so would I.”

“That’s sweet, but I don’t want to horn in on your fun.”

“Not at all. The more the merrier.”

“Well…okay. But fair warning, I’ve never seen those shows you mentioned earlier, so I might ask dumbquestions.”
