Chapter 28

“With a little bit of planning, it shouldn’t come to that,” John reiterated.

“What kind of seeds do we have, anyway?” Yakecen asked. “I didn’t look that closely at our stock.”

They all turned to Saito, probably with the same realization Jason had, that they were just as clueless as Yakecen was about the seeds chosen for the experiment. Saito narrowed his gaze at them, but made the monumental effort not to roll his eyes, which Jason was grateful for.

“NASA decided to send up two hundred seeds for lettuce, chives, peas, carrots, bell peppers, tomato, eggplant, and beans,” Saito answered.

“I’m surprised at the selection,” Eli grinned.

“We decided to test a wide variety of vegetables for hardiness, shelf life, and ease of cultivation in a zero gravity environment.” Saito’s shoulders jerked up in a shrug. “Without a great deal of parasites or diseases to affect the plants, we should have almost four hundred pounds of vegetables percrop to see us through.”
