“We should, however, decide in more detail on our strategy,” Lain told everyone, “now that we have their assistance. From what we have discovered in the past day this spot is very defensible and the men have told us of the small caves that dot the base of the cliffs.”

“Would the prince’s soldiers know of them?” Castien signed.

“It is quite possible they do as they patrol the entire area,” Beleg replied. “However they would have no reason to expect we are here. All signs we left behind in the village will tell them we fled to the mountains. After all, only a fool would try to escape by water—what with the pirates who are on guard out there.”
