Chapter 5

“Let’s travel the world,” Jared said one night in bed. “Let’s see everything we can while we’re young.”

David looked up at him in the darkened room. “I don’t know how easy it’ll be finding jobs for both of us in the same place overseas. You studied Japanese. I took French.”

“We’ll wash dishes if we have to,” Jared said with a confidence in his voice that relaxed David. “We’ll make it.”

That conversation had been only a few months before graduation. They both scored well on the GRE, and David had thought that they would be off to graduate school, although oddly, they had never discussed it. It didn’t matter. There would be time for that. Jared was right. The world was their oyster.

Over the next few months, David spent a lot of time scurrying to find places where they could both get jobs and still see the world. The night they graduated college, after they had sent their families and friends home, David presented his findings to Jared.
