Chapter 14

David nodded his head, trying for a smile. Jared had taken the long way, and now they would be on quieter roads with lots of red lights. David wasn’t sure that he was up for talking the whole way.

“It’s great seeing the beaches area again. I haven’t been here in a while,” David said, turning his head and looking away from Jared and toward the many hotels and businesses that lined Third Street.

As they drove, hitting red light after red light, David waited for Jared to say something, but he didn’t. He knew. He knew exactly what David was feeling and he was being respectful of it. Or maybe he just didn’t care. Maybe he had no clue that David was still pissed after all these years. No matter what the reason, it didn’t matter. They sat in silence, David looking into the night.
