Chapter 14

She hit the ground hard on her back, the air in her lungs being forced out on impact and she coughed, rolling to her side. Her body was numb from the waist down and she wouldn’t have known her phone was ringing if her sound hadn’t been turned on high. Still on her side in the falling snow, Brynn fished her phone out of her pocket and tried to answer the call. She snatched her glove off before finally being able to answer it.

“Hello?”

“Hey, what did you mean you were on your way home now?” It was Nikki Mortelli’s soft voice on the other end, causing a heat to flutter to life within her despite the cold temperatures. She shifted her weight on the ground, attempting to push herself off the ground but failing.

“It means I’m on my way home right now,” she grunted as she sat up in the thick snow, a full body tremble raking through her.

“The roads are impossible. There’s no way you’d get your car through the snow. You aren’t walking, are you?”
