“Thank you. I needed that,” I said when he finished.
“I’m glad.” Emmett cleared his throat. “I’ll play for you in person sometime.”
“I’d love that.” I kept my voice soft, keeping with the mood. “When can I see you, Em?”
He made a startled noise, and I was sure I’d surprised him with the question. I didn’t care. I wanted him with me, and if I didn’t have my children in the house, I would have driven to his place right that moment just so he could play more for me.
And so I could kiss him. I really needed to kiss him.
“The show…but maybe I could—”
“After the show. That night.” I didn’t want to take him away from his work, and I knew he needed to be focused. I could wait two more weeks, if it meant I got to see him that night. “I’ll send the kids home with my parents. Let me take you out after the show.”
“I, um. Yes. That sounds great. A nice reward for a show well done, hmm?”
“Yes.” I heard him yawn then and I knew I needed to let him go.
